When our first son was born I thought it would be great to have a big stork
announce the big news. My mom looked all around and couldn't find one
anywhere. Later that year I was reading a parenting magazine and there was
an article that featured a mom who started her own stork rental. That's when
the light bulb went off! A stork rental would be the perfect opportunity for
me. I have a creative background as a Graphic Designer and my husband does
accounting. Between the two of us I knew we had the skills and motivation to
do this. We've always been entrepreneurs at heart. I started researching
stork rentals and designed my own pattern. My husband created the stork and
I added my artistic touches. Starting from scratch was much harder than I
had anticipated. There was so much to think about and so many details to
work out. Legal issues, safety issues, business issues etc. We finally got
The Stork's Nest off the ground
and have been running full speed ever since.
My design background was a huge help. I was able to design my own stork,
brochures, post cards, business cards, candy bar labels and website. The
best moment came when our second son was born and we were able to have our
very own stork for our front yard!
Now that we have been established for quite some time....and learned what to
do and what not to do we are now ready to share our business with others.
The motivation behind starting my own business was to be able to earn money
from home while spending time with my children. That's when I decided that I
wanted to do what I can to help other moms (and dads) start their own
business. Franchises are overpriced and starting on your own can be too time
and money consuming...not to mention the stress and the trial and error. We
now offer business packages
that make starting your own business easy and
stress free.
The Stork's Nest offers a
Do-It-Yourself package for the handyman (or
women!) as well as 3, 6 and 10 stork packages. We usually recommend starting
with 6 storks. It's a nice manageable number. Renting storks is easy to do
and very rewarding. I love talking to happy customers who are experiencing
the joy of a new family member. I also offer
personalized candy bars and kisses to announce the arrival of a new baby.
I always have people say to me "I wish I would have thought of that!" and it
makes me proud of what I've accomplished. I pride myself on my customer
service and do what I can to make all my customers happy.
